Pre and Post Care.

At Mia Thomas Aesthetics, we are committed to ensuring that you get the best results from your treatment.

We encourage you to have a read through the pre and post care instructions for the service you have booked, so you know what to expect on the day. This will help us to ensure that it’s safe to proceed with the treatment at your appointment time, help you prepare for any downtime, and to optimise your results.

  • Pre-treatment

    • Avoid blood-thinning medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, and fish oils a week before the procedure.

    • Inform your injector about any medications, allergies, or medical conditions.

    • Refrain from consuming alcohol a day before the treatment.

    • Stay well-hydrated in the days leading up to the injections.

    Post treatment

    • Avoid putting makeup over the treated areas for 2 hours.

    • When washing and removing makeup, do not rub or massage the treated area. Gently pat the areas dry. Observe this precaution for 24 hours following treatment.

    • Ensure cleanliness to the treatment sites to avoid infection.

    • To reduce the risk of bruising, avoid excessive alcohol intake or vigorous exercise for the first 24 hours following treatment.

    • Do not expose the areas to extreme heat or extreme cold until full resolution of any redness and swelling.

    • Avoid a facial for 24 hours.

    • Anti-wrinkle treatments take 3-4 days to start working and 2-3 weeks for full effects. This is dependant on the strength of the target muscles and individual response to the product. Rarely, in some individuals this time can be longer or shorter.

If you are concerned about your treatment results or any potential side effects, please contact the clinic so we can advise and support you.

If this is your first time, an opportunity for a review appointment will be made available to you 2 weeks after your treatment. If a stronger dose or minor adjustments are required following your first treatment, this can be carried out at the time of your review appointment.

  • Before and after your Dermal Filler treatment, we recommend you observe the following guidelines. By doing so you can help to ensure your treatment is successful and minimise unwanted side effects.

    Pre Treatment

    • Avoid aspirin, nurofen (ibuprofen), and anti-inflammatories or blood thinning medications one week before your treatment. Paracetamol or Panadol are not included in this group and should be taken as an alternative pain killer to aspirin in the preceding week.

    • Avoid fish oil supplements, garlic tablets, ginger tablets, evening primrose tablets, St John’s Wort, gingko biloba, multivitamins containing Vitamin E or Vitamin E tablets for one week before your treatment.

    • Avoid alcohol for the day before and the day after your treatment and stay well hydrated to help minimise bruising.

    • If you have a special event coming up, consider that you may want to schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance.

    • It is recommended that you wait at least 2 weeks to have dermal filler treatments performed if you have previously had cosmetic treatments with laser, ultrasound, peels, facials or micro-dermabrasion.

Do not schedule any invasive procedures for 2 weeks before or after your treatment. These include but are not limited to:

      • Dental work

      • Surgery of any kind

      • Internal device placement

      • Tattoo or permanent makeup

    Post Treatment

    • Following your treatment with hyaluronic acid dermal fillers we recommend that you observe the following guidelines. By doing so you can help to ensure your treatment is successful and minimise unwanted side effects.

    • Hyaluronic acid dermal filers give a treatment result of an average of 6-12 months. This effect may be variable depending on many factors; including condition of the skin, mechanical action in the treatment area, amount of product injected and injection technique. Lifestyle factors are also known to affect the duration of treatment.

    • Redness, swelling and mild itching on or around the injection site generally resolves within one to two days although we recommend you allow 2 weeks for full resolution.

    • Lip treatments may take a little longer to settle. If any other reaction occurs or you have any concern please contact the clinic.

    • As with all injected treatments there is a risk of bruising on or around the injection site. Taking aspirin or any similar medication may increase the risk of bruising at the injection site.

    • Some discomfort and tenderness may follow the treatment as discussed in your consultation.

    • Avoid excessive alcohol or vigorous exercise for the first 48 hours following treatment as this may enhance bruising.

    • Please continue with your skin care regime as directed.

    • Avoid wearing make up post treatment for 12 hours. If you must wear make up, please ensure it is mineral make up.

    • Refrain from vigorously massaging the treated areas, although a gentle massage is permitted in the event of unevenness or lumps as discussed in your consultation.

    • Do not expose the treated areas to extreme heat (solarium/sunbathing) or extreme cold until full resolution of any redness and swelling. Always wear high factor sun protection on your face.

If you are concerned about your treatment results or any potential side effects, please contact the clinic so we can advise and support you.

As discussed during your consultation, you may require more than 1 treatment session for optimal results.

An opportunity for a review appointment will be made available to you 2-3 weeks following your treatment.
