Lip Volume
What causes lips to lose volume and definition?

Two things happen at once. The skin loses collagen and elastin and the small fat pads around the mouth reduce, so the lips themselves become less full. At the same time the upper lip lengthens, the pink part rolls inward so less of it shows, the outline and the small columns beneath the nose soften, and the jaw bone underneath slowly recedes, taking away some of the support the lips rest on.

Which lip concerns can be discussed at a consultation?

Common concerns include reduced volume, an upper lip that has lengthened or flattened, loss of definition at the lip border, asymmetry, downturned corners and vertical lines above the lip. Naturally fine lips, and lips that have never felt proportionate to the rest of the face, are equally common reasons to seek an assessment.

What happens at a lip consultation?

Mia will assess lip proportion, symmetry, border definition, tooth show and the balance of the lips with the surrounding features, and discuss what is and is not achievable. Suitable options, their risks and their limitations are explained before any decision is made.

Is there any downtime?

Swelling, tenderness and bruising around the mouth are common in the first few days, and lips swell more readily than other areas of the face. Recovery varies between individuals and depends on the option chosen, and Mia will explain the full range of risks before you consent.

Rejuran
What are (PN) polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are purified DNA fragments derived from salmon. In Rejuran they are injected into the skin, where they are intended to support the skin's own repair processes.

What are the benefits of Rejuran?

Rejuran is used to improve skin hydration, texture and elasticity. Potential outcomes include smoother texture, a reduction in pore size, softening of fine lines and wrinkles, improved skin tone and reduced redness — these are possible results rather than guaranteed ones, and individual responses vary.

Who is suitable for treatment?

Rejuran is commonly considered for concerns such as dullness, enlarged pores, uneven texture, fine lines, dehydrated skin, acne scarring and early skin laxity. It isn't suitable for everyone — including people with an active skin infection, certain medical conditions, or a known allergy to any component — so Mia assesses suitability individually at consultation, taking a full medical history and confirming which areas to treat. Individual responses vary and results cannot be guaranteed.

How many treatments are required?

A course of three to four treatments spaced three to four weeks apart is commonly recommended. Changes continue to develop over the following months as new collagen forms, and periodic maintenance sessions sustain the result. Mia will confirm the number you need once she has assessed your skin.

When will I see results?

Changes develop gradually over the course of treatment. Individual responses vary and results are not guaranteed.

What is the downtime?

Downtime is minimal — redness, swelling and small raised areas at the injection sites are common and usually settle within a few days. Bruising, tenderness and, less commonly, infection can also occur, and Mia will go through all the risks with you before treatment.

What if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

Rejuran is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as safety in these groups hasn't been established. Please let Mia know if this applies to you.

Skin Needling
What are the risks?

Skin needling is a medical procedure with risks, including redness, swelling, bruising, pigment changes and, rarely, infection or scarring. Mia will explain all of them before treatment.

Which areas can be treated?

The face, neck and décolletage are the most commonly treated areas. Specific areas on the body can also be targeted, including scarring, acne scarring and stretch marks.

How many treatments will I need?

Skin needling is cumulative and is performed as a course of sessions spaced several weeks apart. The number of sessions depends on your skin type and the concern being treated, and is agreed at your consultation.

Will it work for me?

Skin needling suits most skin types, in line with the SkinPen manufacturer guidelines, and is used for uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, acne scarring, other scarring and stretch marks. It is not appropriate for everyone — certain skin conditions, medications and medical histories are contraindications. Mia assesses your suitability at consultation. Individual responses vary and results cannot be guaranteed.

How should I prepare for my treatment?

Stop active skincare — retinoids and vitamin A, AHAs, BHAs and vitamin C — for around seven days beforehand, and avoid sun exposure, tanning and sunburn in the lead-up. Come in with clean skin and no makeup.

What aftercare is required?

Avoid makeup, strenuous exercise, saunas and swimming for the first 24 to 72 hours, and keep actives off the skin for about seven days. Your skin will be more sun-sensitive afterwards, so daily broad-spectrum SPF 50+ and avoiding direct UV exposure for at least two weeks is essential — written instructions are provided at your appointment.

There is minimal to no downtime and you can return to normal activities immediately. However, recovery varies between individuals and depends on the option chosen.

Collagen Stimulation & Skin Firmness
What is the difference between volume-replacing and collagen-stimulating treatments?

Volume-replacing options add volume directly, giving an immediate visible change that gradually breaks down over time. Collagen-stimulating options work differently, prompting the skin to produce its own collagen so change develops gradually over weeks to months; both are injectable procedures and carry risks including swelling, bruising, tenderness and, less commonly, lumps or nodules and infection.

How long do results last?

Duration varies considerably between individuals and by the option used. Mia will discuss the expected timeframes with you at your consultation.

How many treatments are needed?

A minimum of two treatments is required under the Mia Thomas Aesthetics treatment protocol, spaced several weeks apart. Mia will confirm the total number after individual assessment, and individual results vary.

When will I see results?

Changes develop gradually over several months as collagen forms. Individual responses vary.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is minimal and most people return to normal activities the same day, though recovery varies between individuals and depends on the option used. Swelling, tenderness and bruising are common in the days afterwards, and Mia will explain the less common risks — including lumps or nodules under the skin, and infection — before you consent.

What if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

These treatments are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please let Mia know if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.

PRX-Plus: Skin Rejuvenation Without Needling
What is PRX-Plus?

PRX-Plus is a topical treatment containing trichloroacetic acid and hydrogen peroxide, applied to the skin without needles. It's used for concerns such as dullness, uneven texture, enlarged pores and early laxity, and typically does not cause visible peeling.

What areas of the body can be treated with PRX-Plus?

Face, neck, chest, and body.

How long does the treatment take?

About 20-30 minutes.

Is there any downtime or recovery period?

There is minimal to no downtime and you can resume normal activities immediately. Temporary redness, tightness or stinging can occur, recovery varies between individuals, and sun protection is required afterwards.

How many treatments will I need?

A course of four treatments spaced approximately one week apart is commonly recommended, with results building across the course rather than after a single session. Maintenance sessions sustain the result. Mia will confirm your skin type, medical history and current skincare make you a suitable candidate, and will determine the course length. Results vary between individuals and develop over time.

Is there any aftercare I should be aware of?

Apply the recommended home care products as directed and avoid direct sun exposure. Written aftercare instructions are provided.

What if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

PRX-Plus is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please let Mia know if this applies to you.
