Treatment Six of seven

Collagen Stimulation & Skin Firmness

For generalised loss of firmness through the face and neck, and crepey texture.

Overview

Collagen and elastin production begins to decline from the mid twenties and continues to reduce with age, sun exposure and other lifestyle factors. As the dermal scaffolding that maintains skin tension thins, the effect presents across the whole face and neck rather than in one identifiable area, which is why it responds poorly to topical skincare alone.

What it addresses

  • Generalised loss of firmness through the face and neck
  • Crepey or thinning skin, particularly on the neck and décolletage
  • Reduced skin elasticity and bounce
  • Softening of definition along the jawline and cheeks
  • Skin that appears tired or deflated rather than lined

Benefits

The objective is restored structural support and improved skin quality, producing a firmer and better rested appearance overall. Because collagen forms gradually, the change develops over months rather than days, and is generally perceived as a broad improvement in appearance rather than as a change to any single feature.

Approaches

Two different things can be done here, and they are not interchangeable. One works on the skin itself; the other works on the support beneath it.

Working on the skin means hydration, elasticity and firmness where it has become thin, crepey or lax. That runs as a short course spaced several weeks apart, and suits people whose main concern is the condition of the skin rather than the structure underneath.

Working on the support means prompting the body to build its own collagen over several months, rebuilding where the underlying structure has thinned. It is also course based, but the change develops slowly and is often not clearly visible for two to three months.

Your consultation

Mia will assess your skin, facial structure and medical history and explain which approach may be appropriate for you, the expected timeframe, and the risks, side effects and limitations of each. Some patients are suited to one approach, some to a combination, and some to neither.

Changes develop gradually and differ between individuals. An assessment with Mia is required to determine suitability.

Questions about collagen stimulation & skin firmness

What is the difference between volume-replacing and collagen-stimulating treatments?

Volume-replacing options add volume directly, giving an immediate visible change that gradually breaks down over time. Collagen-stimulating options work differently, prompting the skin to produce its own collagen so change develops gradually over weeks to months; both are injectable procedures and carry risks including swelling, bruising, tenderness and, less commonly, lumps or nodules and infection.

How long do results last?

Duration varies considerably between individuals and by the option used. Mia will discuss the expected timeframes with you at your consultation.

How many treatments are needed?

A minimum of two treatments is required under the Mia Thomas Aesthetics treatment protocol, spaced several weeks apart. Mia will confirm the total number after individual assessment, and individual results vary.

When will I see results?

Changes develop gradually over several months as collagen forms. Individual responses vary.

Is there any downtime?

Downtime is minimal and most people return to normal activities the same day, though recovery varies between individuals and depends on the option used. Swelling, tenderness and bruising are common in the days afterwards, and Mia will explain the less common risks — including lumps or nodules under the skin, and infection — before you consent.

What if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?

These treatments are not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Please let Mia know if you are pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
